My Circumcision By Anonymous - Aug. 06, 2000
I've been engaged to a man from Egypt (we live in Germany) for about one and a half year. In his country it is common rite to have females circumcised (removal of inner labia and clitoris) just before puberty or - if it was not done at that age - prior to marriage. (In some parts of the country they only remove inner labia together with the very top of the clitoris that is protruding between the outer labia.) Since our first talking about marriage he told me what his relatives would expect me to do. Being very traditional people in a remote rural area specially his mother and aunt would want me to undergo this procedure. Of course, first I was shocked, but through talking to his sisters who all got circumcised at the age of about 9 to 12 years I began to understand what it is all about. It is not - as often said in western countries - that Muslim men want their women not to have any sexual pleasure. I learned that circumcised women still can achieve orgasms - although it takes longer and feels much different. The alteration of the feelings is even said to increase interest in sexuality as relief can only be achieved with strong stimulation and hence is not that frequent. Another aspect is to make masturbation more difficult which helps keeping chastity in times when the man is not present or in young girls is not wanted at all. My fiancee's sisters took me to the local hamam (a kind of public bath for women only) and showed me how a circumcised woman looks. I liked the view from the first moment on - especially as all women there seemed to shave regulary which added to the very clean and pure look.
In the beginning of this year my fiancee's family (this is business of women only) made an appointment with a local gynecologist of their home town who is said to carry out a very good job (he did all circumcisions in the family and neighbourhood within the past 25 years). I do not recall very much of the procedure itself. The day of the procedure was four days after our arrival to leave some time for acclimatization and to allow me to become familiar with the physician who was going to do it.
On the morning before circumcision the doctor's wife (working as his assistant) came to our house to get me well prepared. Of course I was told to shave and she checked out my anatomy so she could tell her husband some detail before things started. Then my fiancee's two sisters who are about same age as me took me over to the gynaecologist's house. I was told to undress and lay down in the gyn chair, then they built up some fence of green fabric so I could not see anything of the whole procedure. The gyn got me a perfect local anaesthesia with five injections all in all. The first four went in to the right and to the left between outer and inner labia. After about ten minutes waiting which I considered being eternity - he did the final one right into the bottom of the clitoris. Although the other four ones already worked quite well at that time this really hurt - but only for a very short moment like one or two seconds.
What further went on I can only tell from what the gyn said how it was done: first he cut off the inner labia with one long line each using a scalpel. Then a circular cut was done to remove the hood from the clitoris then he performed some deep triangular cuts to get the clitoris out as a whole together with the erectile parts from down beneath. This was when I could feel something, but pain was not too hard at that time. It was a very strange feeling to see the parts cut off getting placed in a stainless steel plate beside me. On one hand I was really scared on the other hand there was some kind of positive arousal that can hardly be described. Watching my clitoris go (by the way I never thought of my clit being that huge before) somehow turned me on but left me very confused.
I was sewed with two stitches and there was done some cauterization to stop bleeding which was not too bad as the gyn told me. I got my legs tied together with a cushion-like bandage between them so I could hardly move them and was carried over to a bed in a separate room where I spent the following five days. Pain started about two hours after the procedure and was really bad. I could not walk for about two days and going to the toilet was torture like hell!!
First healing until all bandage could be removed took about three weeks. During that time I was treated like a princess by my fiancee's family! There could not have been another way to become member of their family much faster. They showed me how proud they are that a woman from Europe adopts their culture although she has to suffer. Something that is absolutely not expected in women from the west. Complete healing took about two months (with some complications). During that time I regularly visited the gyn who had done the operation for a proper aftercare. It was not only physical examination but he was also a great psychologist who became a real friend to whom I could speak about my fears and feelings. Thanks to him from this place!!
About three months after the operation my fiancee and I made love for the first time after circumcision and it was really great. Of course I had been afraid of no longer feeling anything but things turned out to be the other way round: the feeling got more intense and is much deeper than before. Making love lasts longer and I don't feel so much like focusing on my own pleasure. These are very strange feelings that can hardly be described to anybody not going through such procedure herself. All in all I must say the result was worth all pain and trouble. The whole thing even adds something really exciting to our relationship. Now I feel totally belonging to him.
I also very much like the new appearance of my vulva. My inner labia used to "hang out" about half an inch between the outer ones. Now it somehow looks very clean and - let's say virgin-like (by the way I kept on removing my hair ever since, which of course adds to the nice view). A very good friend of mine (female) who of course at first was absolutely shocked by my plans now really admires my look. She said that my vulva looks as if I have never had clitoris and inner labia at all. Now she admitted that phantasy of getting circumcised herself even turns her on and that she is thinking of having it done the same way as me. Maybe she will first only have what is known as Sunnah-Circumcision in Egypt (only removal of inner labia together with hood and few or no part of clitoris) as she does not like her inner labia - same as me.
Finally I must declare that I absolutely do not agree with what is known as female genital mutilation to western countries as long as it deals with minors who are not consenting or when the procedure is not done by medically trained staff and under acceptable medical conditions. For me it was the right decision, but I was 23 when it was done and I had some kind of sex life before that allowed me to make a proper decision. Maybe there are women like the sisters of my fiancee who are absolutely happy with their circumcisions done at age 9 to 12 but in my opinion a woman/girl has not the mental ability to make proper decisions with maybe some cultural and social pressure from friends and family. Therefore I must speak for the prohibition of that rite among minors but I would allow / tolerate it among grown ups.
