Letters from Ishtar : An Epilogue for The Making of a Concubine

Submission Date: 2001-02-03 By: Tiara [Circumcision] [Clitorectomy] [Straight]

Hello all. Tiara here. I am thankful for those of you who wrote encouraging words about my previous story. Therefore, I felt compelled to write another. This is not a brand-new one, this is like a continuation of the last story. I very strongly recommend all you good readers to read my first story first "The Making Of A Concubine" to get a good background regarding the circumstances on which these stories took place. If you just kind of "jump" into this story, then it might not make any sense to you! I include a kind of "glossary" at the end of this story. I advise the readers to read the glossary first, to familiarize yourself with some of the terms used throughout this story. Well, without further ado, let's begin our story.

February 14

To my Cousin Zayd, son of Uncle Hamran-Al-Hikmah

Salaam Alaykum from your cousin Ishtar. How are you doing cousin? I hope you be just fine. I hope you and your family is always under the guidance and protection of Allah. I am so sorry I have not write to you for a long while. I am also afraid that my letters will be bothering you because I am aware that you are now a famous tabeeb in your city. So I will try to keep this letter short.

How's your life now, cousin? I am sure you are very busy as a tabeeb. My life is very simple here in Wadi-Al-Sughra. I don't have to do much manual labour at all. Do you still remember when you spent a week on my house, cousin? Do you remember how I loathe the daily chore of taking the water out of the cistern, preparing the dishes and everything else my mother, your aunt, taught me? Now I don't have to do that at all Zayd!! Murad has so many servants to serve me. However, I do afraid that I will grow a bit fat because I do no exercise at all...

You know Zayd, all the luxury here is not all that wonderful. As Murad's wife, I am not allowed to go out of my palace, not even to take the water out of the public cisterns. Now I have maids doing it for me. I do nothing else but praying, eating, reading the Koran, cooking a bit (but with plenty of help from our servants), and, uh, well, you know, doing the honorable thing to do with my husband. A pleasurable job though, if you asked me. I know you be smiling when you read this Zayd, because I know you also enjoy doing it with your wives, am I right?

Do you know Zayd? Murad has just got a new concubine. Her name is Zahra. You know that I am a jealous girl. But I have no jealousy towards Zahra. Oh Zayd, if you know how much sacrifice that poor girl had to do to become Murad's concubine, you'll know why I have no jealousy at all. Well Zayd, Zahra is a khotana. Not a khotana by choice, but my, er, our mother-in-law Ummi Ishma made her a khotana. In fact, she ordered the tabeeb to perform the operation right in the front of us. Yes Zayd, me, Lalla Muslicha, Lalla Selima and Lalla Mariyah had to witness the operation. Seemed like Ummi Ishma wanted us NOT to feel jealous towards Zahra. And yes Zayd, her way works. We feel soo guilty, we kind of feel sorry for her. But Zahra seemed to be happy with her role now.

Well I think that's all from me for now cousin. I kind of lonely here, so with your permission, I might write more to you. Salaam Aleykum!

To my cousin Lalla Ishtar-As-Samhah, wife of the most honorable Sultan Murad-As-Samhah.

Salaam alaykum cousin. I am glad you write to me, because it has been so long since the last time I hear from you. I am afraid that since you have become Sultan's fourth wife, you looked down upon us and consider us below your station. Apparently, you are still my beloved cousin and you have not forgotten the lessons of humility from the Koran. I am glad that you still pray and read the Koran. I still do as well.

You are free to write to me anytime. Yes I am a tabeeb, but I am also your cousin and you know that family ties are beyond station. I will be very happy to read your stories and to reply your letters.

I see that you have witnessed the unsightly operation. You know, even though I am a tabeeb, I never liked performing the Khitan, both to boys or girls. I especially hates doing it to a girl. But you know it is a custom with the lower caste people. If I refuse to do it, they will cut out their daughters all by themselves, using whatever crude tools they have. That is very risky for the health of the girl. So I cannot refuse. The best I can do is to fool the parents of the girl. There were times where I simply put a little nick or split the hood of the clitoris just a bit, so the parents will see a bit of blood, and they will be satisfied.

Well, I am waiting for your next letters. Salaam Aleykum!!

To my cousin Zayd, son of Uncle Hamran-Al-Hikmah

Oh Zayd, I hope our future generation won't have to experience the pains of khitan again. Do you know that here the operation is still very common amongst the lower caste? A couple of weeks ago I noticed that my favorite chambermaid Rugaya, a girl aged 13, did not come to work for three days. At the fourth day she came back, looking very unhealthy. She's limping around, looked very sad and she looked 10 years older all so sudden. I asked her what happened and she refused to tell me. So I called her mother and asked her what happened. Oh Zayd, I wanted to cry. Turns out that Rugaya's family wanted her to marry a relative. But this relative wanted a Khotana. So they made Rugaya a Khotana. A Khotana at age 13 Zayd! Ohh... what a pity.

You know what they did to her Zayd? Her mother and her aunties tied her up on top of the kitchen table, strip her, then cut out her clitoris and everything else around it. By Allah Zayd, I wanted to cry when I heard that!! I immediately called Murad's tabeeb, Abu Shehab, and tell him to have a look. Abu Shehab told me that there's not much he can do, because Rugaya's mother did a terrible job with her khitan. She got infected all over, probably because her mother performing the operation with unhealthy knife. The best Abu Shehab can do is to make the wound heal cleanly. But he cannot bring back all the syahwat pleasure Rugaya is entitled to.

Oh Zayd, I was really MAD at Rugaya's mother, but I cannot blame her at all, because you know we cannot fight custom Zayd. This custom has been around for longer than we can remember. Yes Zayd, you and I might argue that our Prophet never tell us to turn our girls into Khotanas and to circumcise our boys. But then again, how do we explain it to the illiterate lower classes? I felt so helpless in this cause!!

Uh, if you see watermarks on this letter Zayd, that's my tears. I think I can't write anymore now. Please reply. Salaam Aleykum.

To my cousin Lalla Ishtar-As-Samhah, wife of the most honorable Sultan Murad-As-Samhah.

I feel pity for Rugaya. Maybe you should tell Abu Shehab to promote to the lower classes the proper way of khitan operation for girls. So there will be no more cases like Rugaya.

Another point is, we must tell the parents not to perform khitan operation all by themselves. We must encourage them to go to tabeebs for the circumcision procedures. I just got a patient you know, an 8 years old boy whose head of his zakar were accidentaly cut off during his khitan by his uncle, a barber. Do you know that barbers sometimes does sideline jobs as surgeons? What stupidity. What carelessness. Thanks be to Allah, I can heal that boy's wound, and now he can pee normally. But of course I cannot heal his mis-shapen zakar-head.

I'd like to write more to you in the future. Salaam Aleykum!

To my cousin Zayd, son of Uncle Hamran-Al-Hikmah

Cousin, you know what? I took a milk bath together with Lalla Mariyah and Zahra yesterday. Out of curiosity, I asked Zahra to show me her farji. She was extremely reluctant at first, but she finally show me and I can see that not all of her clit has gone. I still see a tiny bud. What do you think about that? Do you think Abu Shehab did that on purpose or is that the proper way of khitan? I am certain that she still has some sensitivity on her tiny bud because when I tickled her farji with my peacock-feather fan, Zahra said she felt ticklish. Not painful at all, just ticklish. When she did the same to me, I became, ahum, a bit "restless" and I missed Murad, err, immediately.. But it was Lalla Selima's turn with Murad, so there was nothing I can do about it...Ohhh...Murad..

Uh, oh, anyway, please reply to me. Salaam Aleykum.

To my cousin Lalla Ishtar-As-Samhah, wife of the most honorable Sultan Murad-As-Samhah.

From your description, I think Abu Shehab did a good job on Zahra. By leaving some of the clitoris intact, Zahra could still feel the pleasure on the clitoris, even though in a severely reduced level. However, I am pretty sure that the "pleasure nerves" inside her farji will enlarge to compensate the lack of feelings in the outside.

If it's up to me, I prefer to trim only the hood of the clitoris, and leave the clitoris alone. So Zahra could experience "nikmat junub" from both the inside and the outside. But then again, I think Abu Shehab did not dare to go agains the will of the Sultan's mother, Ummi Ishma. So I am sure he was forced sort of pull a compromise.

You know cousin, Zahra was very lucky. She had her operation under the right procedures, done by qualified persons. But there are many girls and boys out there did not get the same treatment.

I advise you not to think much about nafs syahwat while you are not with Murad. I understand that abstinence makes the heart go yonder, but then you are the wife of Sultan, and of course your behavior should be the example for other women.

That's all for now, my beloved cousin. Please write to me if anything else comes up. Salaam aleykum.
